A surprising guided tour in the heart of Vercelli, to discover a town that preserves, among its thousand-year-old stones, the soul of the Middle Ages and the power of the sacred. The visit begins in front of the imposing Basilica of Sant’Andrea, one of the most extraordinary examples of Cistercian Gothic architecture in Italy: we admire its external harmonies, walking along the suggestive Salone Dugentesco and we venture to climb the bell tower, a truly exclusive gem, from which you can enjoy an enchanting view of the ancient town.
Continuing along the elegant via Galileo Ferraris and via Verdi, you reach Piazza Cavour, the beating heart of Vercelli: here the monument to the great statesman and the picturesque Torre dell’Angelo tell centuries of history and power. The route moves on across the stone wings of Piazza Palazzo Vecchio and via Foa, where an imposing Synagogue recalls the presence of the ancient Jewish ghetto, witness to a silent but living memory.
Walking along Via Duomo, the ancient “street of the Nobles”, you meet the Visconti Castle – severe and imposing in its external appearance – and then enter the spiritual heart of the town: the Cathedral and the Archiepiscopal Seminary. Here, in a crescendo of emotion, the Museo del Tesoro del Duomo welcomes us, guardian of precious liturgical relics and a true literary treasure: the famous Vercelli Book, one of the oldest manuscripts in Old English, a bridge between cultures and eras. A unique guided tour through history, art and spirituality in the Town of Rice!
